The Full-Body Skincare Routine You Didn't Know You Needed

When we think of skin care, facial care is usually the first thing to pop into our minds. The rest of the body can be largely ignored. Why is this a problem? Because neglecting your skin can put your health at risk (no joke)plus who doesn't want to look flawless from head to toe?! Being the body's largest roadblock for infection, certain diseases/illnesses and your primary defense against the environment, maintaining healthy skin all over is super important.

Developing a full-body skin care routine will help keep you on track and we're here to get you started!

Step 1

Clean your skin. Dirt, sweat, perfume, lotion, sunscreen, all need to be cleaned off of the skin. In order for skin care products to absorb, the skin needs to be free from residue and debris- a clean canvas! Make sure to use a gentle soap, preferably one that is natural such as those by Aspen Kay.

Step 2

Remove rough/dead skin using an exfoliant or a scrub. Try the Olive oil, Peppermint, and Sugar scrub below:

Combine 1/4 cup of olive oil, 1 cup of brown sugar, and 15 drops of peppermint essential oil into a coarse paste, place into a nice jar, and add a festive ribbon. 

Step 3

Are you shaving correctly? Shaving is also exfoliating. Wait a bit to begin shaving. The water will soften up the skin, making for an easier, and closer shave. 

Step 4

Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate. Hydration can prevent dry skin. Curél’s Hydra Therapy Wet Skin Moisturizer, Kiehl's Creme de Corps, or La Roche-Posay Lipikar Daily Repair Moisturizing Lotion are all fabulous options! 

Step 5

Apply the finishing touches. Toner or color. Tanning beds are so 20 years ago. These days we know just how dangerous a way it is to get that golden glow. Luckily, there is now a wide range of sunless tanning products available. You can still get the color without cancer!

Helpful Tips:

  • Using a dry body brush can encourage blood circulation.
  • Fragrance and essential oils can cause inflammation.
  • Always safeguard your skin in cold climates/weather.
  • Eat healthily, and get your beauty sleep.

Look for products that contain retinol, hyaluronic acid, vitamin C, AHA’s, and BHA’s. These are some of the best ingredients for your full-body skin care routine. 

The Necessities

Beauty begins on the inside. What you put into your body is just as, if not more, important than the products we use on our skin. Eating a skin healthy diet, and drinking plenty of water can make a huge difference in the health of your epidermis. Having healthy, full-body skin doesn’t have to break the bank either. A few basics are all you need to start getting that skin looking fresh, with a healthful glow.


Dry Brush: This should be done daily, using small, circular motions all over the body.

Exfoliation Treatment: Starting off, exfoliating should be done once a week, gradually upping it to 2-3 times weekly.

Cleanser: Fragrance and essential oil free. The gentler the better. You can also follow this step by a nice tub soak with sea salts.

Moisturizer: A good moisturizer can leave your skin radiant, protected, and feeling super soft.

Sunscreen: Never leave the house without protection! Wearing sunscreen not only protects your skin for harmful UV rays but also prevents sunspots, wrinkles, and other forms of premature aging.

There are some things we can't avoid that are a natural part of aging. Having the right routine (with the correct products), however, can undo much of the damage caused by living life, and the passage of time.

With our busy schedules, we can sometimes neglect ourselves. Happiness is easier to acquire when we feel good, and feeling good starts on the inside. Drink plenty of water, protect yourself from the sun, don't slack on your skin care routine, and keep your diet healthy (minus a few cheat days, of course!). Nurture that glow that comes from within!
